is there any way making the graphics on the dell less grainy

No, it's a property of the screen that does it. The 360 is very grainy on a dell 2405 too.

Did the shop LCD have a navie res of 1920x1200...
Plus the xbox360 outputs 720p/1080i .

where if am right the ps2 can only output 480p

You get the same picture if you run your PC games at these low res on a dell 2405

Can't you set the tft to 1:1 mode rather than scale/fill which i guess it's probably on by default? If its 1:1 it should look as good as the ps2 can put out...

I forgot all about my own dell 2405 1:1 mode...

What connection to the monitor is your ps2 using...
