Sony "purposefully" make the PS3 hard to develop for

So Sony are now saying that they made the PS3 hard to develop for on purpose,

What the hell are they thinking?

Utterly crazy. Next gen games development is very expensive(and high risk) and given the massive leap of technology, getting more and more complex. Would you rather a company devoted its time to making a good game or have it waste months of development time wrestling with hardware to get things working? This all sounds like putting a positive spin on Sonys mistakes (thats not to say MS havent made any btw).

Many games companies have to develop games in very short time frames, often relying on the good will of staff to do huge amounts of overtime(for free) to get projects done. Why make things worse by making the console more difficult to work on and on top of that provide poor support too?

Ive been making games for 15 years, and this has been the most difficult generation for games development ive experienced. The 360 was hard enough, but the PS3 was even harder to get the same results. Many companies have had issues judging by the amount of lower quality multi platform games on the PS3. Thankfully many only differed slightly.

If the PS3 was released before the 360, perhaps things would have been better for multi platform games, get the game working on the most difficult system first and then it should be easier to port it to the easier system(360). In future that might be the case.

Ive been a 360 fan since its launch(which was a surprise for me as i was very dissapointed by the original XBOX) and was regreting my PS3 purchase until Killzone 2 came along and rocked my world :) that game has also stirred interest among many of my 360 owning friends. More games of this standard needed to be released a year ago imo and we need more of them now.
