Sony readies the Ban Hammer

I'll hold my hand up and confess to installing CFW on my PS3, but last week decided it was pointless for me so installed OFW 3.56 and removed all homebrew packages/apps.

Hopefully this satisfies Sony and my account/console won't be banned from PSN.

some people are reporting getting banned on 3.56! there is even a hack to unban yourself and in turn move you ban onto another console!

I find it strange they would issue such a statement when people obviously know they could get banned anyway. Kind of suggests that they are struggling to actually ban people and instead would rather scare people into stopping?

Either way I don't own a ps3 so it doesn't really bother me hugely. Instead I own an xbox 360 where the only reason I have an xbox live account is because I keep forgetting to ring up micro$oft and cancel my account because obviously it would have been impossible to implement such a system online.

I am not advocating cheating but i have not come across any as i rarely play online. I have 1 PS3 that is jailbroken and one that is fully updated. I also have a collection of 40+ Games.. The problem is that Sony have removed a feature that was integrated into the original package (Other OS) and seemed to think that was ok? Its like buying a car, taking it for a service and them removing the stereo.. Why are they suprised that they annoyed hackers to the extent that they slaughtered thier security. All this nonsense of not using ANY authorised products, software etc on your PS3 is a joke.. Is it mine once i have paid for it or do they own it???

They will have some way of knowing - they have sent out warning emails to users doing the hacks - so they know who is doing what etc.

I've read on other sites of people who have done the hacks that they have received the emails so they have some way of checking.

People can do what ever they want with the PS3 or even the 360 etc as long as they stay away from online cheating etc.

I am not advocating cheating but blah blah blah

Don't start all this again - loads of threads have been closed because of people trying to explain how they're in the right to bypass Sony security by using some stupid car analogy.
We know, it's your system blahdy flippin' blah. Change the record.

I for one, welcome our banhammer wielding overlords.

from what ive read, there is now a hack which can un ban a psn acount and others from the same console with the right details, it just one thing after another.

Really? I'd say it's more like them removing the cigarette lighter. Few people ever really used it, cared about it or noticed it until it was actually gone, but now it is they all want it back.

Nope its BS, the only way this could happen if that they had your console ID and knew both the MAC address and the IP of your console. If they bought another PS3 and copied the console ID etc then returned it, it may work. Each time they used CFW on PSN then they would be banned again and have to do the same again. Trying to spoof a console ID would be nigh on impossible as it requires a 35 digit hex number. All the good console IDs seem to be held Sony side on a white list so anything not on it wont get PSN access.

Not sure how truth full this is but if its true its a bit of a nightmare.

lol

It will almost certainly be true for now. They have complete control of the system, and obviously this sytem automatically sends traffic to/from PSN so they can control what it does. Its not surprising they can just get the console to broadcast somebody else's console ID.

Sony will no doubt have to change the way it bans consoles.

Honestly i'd take it with a pinch of salt. A few days ago one of the cfw devs was up in arms that Sony had stealth updated his machine to 3.56 without his permission. several hours later he realised it was something he was faffing around with a few days later.

The entire scene is full of ridiculous rumor, armchair speculation and wild accusation.
