Sony RX100 and Fireworks

Tonight is my first 4th of July. I really wanted to see if I can capture some images of the fireworks tonight. I should about up front that I use this camera as a point and click, I know it is so much more than that I just have not gotten round to exploring it.

Would one of you pro's be able to give me some tips on getting some decent shots tonight?

firework shots work best with slow shutter speeds, but to the point where you'll probably need a small tripod to get the best possible photos.

Yeah, I don't have a tripod, put it in the skip before we moved here. Doh!!
