I have a 3 years old 19'' tft which looks good when the resolution is at 1024x768 but when i take it up to the maximum 1280x1024 it gets VERY tiring for the eyes and i suspect due to low refresh rate. Or not? Do new screens have the same problem?

Sounds like you have a bad refresh rate.
On tfts higher isnt always better.

My tft looks far beter at 60Hz than 75hz

Yup it aint my eyes. My screens killing me at 1280x1024

Any idea why the refresh rate falls so dramatically? its like being in front of a 72hz CRT monitor.

Does anyone experience what I experience? Is it normal for my screen to become tiring for eyes when I up the resolution? The refresh rate is at 60hz but it is nothing like when am at 1024x768 in terms of eyes restrain.

Afaik you shouldn't suffer from the refresh rate at 60 Hz, that is the standard on all TFTs. If anything running your TFT at the native resolution should be a little sharper and easier to use, not less so.

I used to have this monitor and I never noticed any flickering that would cause eyestrain on any resolution. Maybe something is defective on the monitor itself causing it to do something weird.
