Have got this setup and installed last night, but I seem to have a problem in that no matter what settings I try, I always seem to get an echoey sound. It only seems to be with voices, but then you get voices in nearly everything to warrant it being a problem.

Not sure if anyone knows a solution to this if they have got the same setup as me and if they experienced the same issue. The only thing I can see is disconnecting the centre speaker altogether, but surely if they sell you surround sound to go with the tv you shouldnt have to do that?

Make sure you have the right speakers connected to the right outputs, the only reason you get delay on voices should between the front and rear channels, check all your connections. Does the TV have sound? If it has have you muted it, having sound via TV and surround sound might give this issue.

If it continues then it might be a problem with the unit and you may have to return it.

I have a Bravia V 40" combined with Z700 surround package and it seems that the TVs sound is out of sync with that amplified. Its only maybe a few millisec but as you point out adds echo, easily fixed by muting the audio on the telly as Mat assumed above.

Not tried any other way of fixing it myself.

My TV seems to default to 'not muted' so I use an RGB only SCART which has no sound wiring, hence the TV can't produce any noise :).

Im sure that I can mute the sound from just the TV if I wanted to, but is there no other way to get everything working together somehow? I assumed that as Sony supplied me with the surround sound & tv, that everything could work in harmony? Especially when I get HD installed

Oh dear

No is the answer, the surround sound is a replacement for the internal speakers not a complementary enhancement. The new speakers will be better quality than a the ones in the TV and leaving the old ones on will have no function apart from making things sound worse, beleive me you want to turn them off!
