Are you talking about Movies from TV broadcast in Stereo (2.0)?
Because DVD's/Blu-rays should default to the best audio possible, e.g Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio
For Movies on TV, PLII Movie or Neo 6 Cinema are about the same.
^ This.
Sony contradicts itself when talking about HD-D.C.S.
"HD Digital Cinema Sound (HD-D.C.S.) is Sony’s new innovative home theater technology using the latest acoustic and digital signal processing technologies.... (for) the best sound ambience, just as the movie’s sound engineer intended in the mastering process. "
The manuals then go on to say that there are 3 modes for D.C.S.!!
(a) Isn't "what the sound engineer intended" already on the disc?!
(b) Why is Sony is trying to fix what isn't broken?
(c) Why the need for three modes.... Do they think the sound engineer went home and then thought "Damn, if only I'd done it this was, or maybe this way, or even this way?"
(d) I wonder, are Sony claiming they can now mind read the sound engineers?
Sorry if I seem like I'm trying t pee on their parade but this all just stinks of B.S. to me. It's smoke and mirrors with Sony's now ubiquitous use of fancy names and misdirection. They're marketing the Emperors new clothes and that's about it.
If you want to get close to what the sound engineer intended then set up the speakers in your room to Dolby guidelines. Use a sound meter and tape measure to set up the amp. If you can afford it, buy some room treatment.
