I have a Sony HT-RT4 surround sound system - very much at the cheaper end of the market but still £200 or so when I bought it 2 years ago. Recently its just stopped playing any sound at all, no matter what the input and the source. Have tried optical, HDMI from various sources, Bluetooth from 2 phones, and even via a 3.5mm cable from my phone. System has been reset to factory setiings, different volume levels tried, all the cables are plugged in and have been checked, just nothing coming out of any of the 5 speakers and Sub.

Everything is telling me its borked and I'll need to replace, but any further thoughts before I chuck it? Is it worth opening up and seeing if there are any fried connections or capacitors? Other common and easy to fix potential issues? Speakers connect via what looks like a proprietary connector so difficult to try those elsewhere.

It powers up properly and the remote works; when connected via bluetooth changing the volume via the remote has a corresponding effect on my phone so if the electronics are stuffed its quite specific.

Just an update on this in case anyone finds it searching in the future - took it apart to look for burnt out capacitors etc and couldn't see anything so it's off to recycling centre. Annoying as it was not long out of (2 year) warranty.

Probably just going to get a cheap sound bar to replace it.
