hi guys, some of you who browse MM might remember seeing this for sale in there, this was the actual thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17969248&highlight=username_e36Adz

I am actually very lucky the first few guys who wanted to buy this all backed out, because since they did I decided to attempt seeing what I can do with this and after a simple format, and Vista Ultimate 64 install, almost everything on there is working.

Sony Vaio TZ11XN [PCG-4L2M]

Keyboard/Mousepad - Still faulty

CPU- Core 2 Duo U7600 1.20Ghz
HDD- 100GB Toshiba
Ram- 2GB DDR2
GFX- Intel GMA 950 (scores 2500 in 3dmark01)
Display - 11.1" widescreen, 1366x768 res, no dead pixels
DVD-Writer- Tested & working
Wireless- Tested & working
Bluetooth- Tested & working
Webcam- Untested/no drivers
Fingerprint Sensor- Untested/no drivers

The laptop boots up fine everytime, it runs 3dmark on a loop without any problems. Battery life shows as over 6 hrs on a full charge. The screen is in v good condition and has no dead pixels. It could be a minor fault with the keyboard/mousepad, or it could be major, I have no experience with opening and repairing laptops so I am not going to bother.

Now my question is, on the hdd the hidden recovery partition is still there. How do I access this and restore the laptop to factory settings, this 'should' install all the drivers and will give me a better indication of what is/isn't working right?

At the moment I am using the laptop with an external USB keyboard and mouse, both USB's work fine I originally thought one wasn't working.

Any idea how much the keyboard/mousepad would cost to repair?

How much is this likely to fetch as it is, just the laptop and power lead? I have no need for it, already have a PC and a laptop :)

Hi, have you tried a driver re-instal from

http://www.vaio-link.com/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-TZ&m=3659

also some info on there on how to use the hd based recovery utility. I have upgraded my hard disk and reinstaled windows so don`t have the option open to me anymore.
I know when I asked Sony about 2 years ago how much it would cost to repair / replace my dvd burner in my S1XP they wanted £200, and £100 if they found nothing wrong with it
Found a replacement myself in the end :)

.

I'm not even gonna bother going to sony tbh, I've heard how much they charge :p

Thanks for the link, I already dwnloaded the full driver pack from there and tried to update drivers from device manager, and I point it to the driver folder which I dwnloaded but its no good.

I will post in a short while and copy what it says in device manager, someone might know which drivers I require.

I think its F10 to start recovery on Sony's, keyboards for these are like hens teeth, would say around £70. I think it should fetch around £300 on the bay of E seem to be the going rate less fees postage time hassle etc. I'd snatch your hand off at £200 :)

f10 option is only available with the original sony install, if you formatted and installed vista 64 then you can not recover using that method
