I purchased a Vaio laptop for the wife in Jan 2104, so it is 2 months out of warranty.
It consists of an Intel i3 3227U CPU, 8.00 GB's Ram, 750GB SATA hard drive and a 14" screen and Win 8.1.

She does not use it much and about 8 months ago I noticed after a week without use the battery was flat, I presume that is not normal.

Today I plugged it into the charger as the battery was flat and after it got to 80% charged, a popup told me it was plugged in but not charging.
I tried wiggling the part you plug in from the charger to the laptop but the charging light will not come on.
I tested the plug you insert to the laptop with a multimeter and it says an output of 19.67V, the battery is rated at 19.5V, so no problems there.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be.

Problem solved.

Sony in there wisdom installed an update that altered the battery charging capacity to 80% to preserve the life of battery so when it gets to 80% charged it stops charging hence no charging light showing.

I found out about this through Google, and also found a way through the Vaio control center to put it back to 100%.
