Sony Vaio Laptop - BIOS/User Password problem

Morning

I have a client's Sony Vaio VGN-FS215Z laptop. They claim they have tried to disable the BIOS and user passwords, to prevent it from asking each time they power the machine up/access the BIOS.

I'm not sure what they have done, but the password they claim no longer works! As a result, the system won't boot (asking for a password), and I can't access the BIOS (asking for a password).

Apparently on the later Vaio's, removing the battery for a while doesn't fix this issue as the password(s) are stored on a chip...

Sony want to charge me 35p/min for a phone call to assist, so I wondered if anyone on here had any thoughts on how to possibly get round this problem?

Thanks in advance :)

Hey up,

Calling sony would be the only way,

Im sure as its for a client, you can call them up, give them the required info ie, serial number, date of purchase and so on.

They will then issue you a password which will allow you to remove all set passwords.

Sure it will cost 35p a min, but you can charge that back to the client.

Laptop passwords have been toughened for one reasone, theft. I have had my lappy stolen and take comfort in the knowledge that its just a brick to the person that nicked it. Its registered as nicked to the manu. And if they call up to get it un-locked :D i will be laughing lol.

Give sony a call, they will sort it out.

Hi Datamonkey

Thanks for the response.

It's good that passwords can't easily be wiped nowadays, but also not so good in other ways!

I'll give Sony a call, just the client is a University student, and we all know how tight they can be!! :D
