Hi,
a friend has a Sony Vaio PCG-K415B notebook. As standard this came with 512mb of memory in the form of 2X256mb, no free slots. Friend complained that the machine was too slow - defragged, removed unwanted programmes, ran AV, Ccleaner etc. still too slow.
OK, I advised friend to upgrade memory - max for this notebook is 1gb in the form of 2X512mb, memory ordered and arrived.
Now! I cannot get this notebook to recognise any more than a total of 512mb of memory regardless of combinations of 256, 512 and playing around with the memory reserved for graphics.
Using CPUZ a total of 1gb is seen, however the BIOS and Windows XP see only 512 less graphics usage.
Memtest sees all four modules as passing tests but only sees the 512 modules as 256 less the graphics usage, whilst the 256 modules pass as 256 less graphica usage.
What is happening ?
Please help, friend may soon be ex-friend and I feel a total t!t.
Apologies for the long post but thanks for reading,
Mike.
