Hi all,

Had a Sony Vaio laptop come through work which needs to go back to the owner. Unfortunately, some muppet (hi) managed to snap the ribbon cable going from the touchpad to the motherboard while I was trying to get to the hard drive. It's properly snapped in two and unfixable.
My question is, does anyone know anywhere I could get this fixed? Sony Vaio parts, especially this particular part, seem virtually unsourcable. Our local computer shop was unable to find one, despite a week of searching. There's nothing on ebay, and the ribbon cable seems specific to only a couple of models. Sony are expensive, take a long time, and don't seem to have any guarantee of actually fixing it. Our local Sony centre even tried to get the part for us but Sony wouldn't have it.

Any ideas appreciated,

MD

hi, i have a sony vaio pcg-8n1m that i wil lbe pulling apart and selling spares, if there is a part u need or interested in the whole thing, the bios is password bloked and no matter what i do i cant install anything it doesnt have cd drive either.

yes quite a common thing to break these by the ineperienced technician, theres a couple of palm rest assemblies on ebay but the cables are missing, maybe send them a request, the part number is A1067142A if it helps, sony are useless at selling spares.

Yeah, I'll definitely be more careful next time :) Wish I'd come on here first - took me ages to figure out the part number printed on the cable wasn't the part number i need to order a replacement. Got one coming from America now. Cheers!
