Sony Vaio problem

Hi,

My Sony Vaio VGN-N38E laptop has an occasional whine, think it’s coming from HDD.

Is the HDD on the way out, & should I start thinking about upgrading to a SSD?

I know the new line of SSD are on the way so will most likely hold off.

Old laptop but just want it to last a bit longer, at least until I work out which way to go next ‘SB/IB/ bulldozer etc.
