I've got a Sony Vaio laptop model VPCF22M0E which has a faulty hard drive. Now I had removed the old fitted the new and all is fine until it comes to install Windows. The new hard drive is seen fine in the BIOS but not by the Windows 7 installer. I have trawled Sony site but cant seem to find the sata achi driver.

Does anyone have one of these and if so can they perhaps email me or link me the drivers. I did fine one driver but it's not the .inf files only an .exe file which is not any use.

Cheers

windows 7 has it's own AHCI driver and you shouldn't need the intel one during setup.

it is good to install the intel drivers later because they are better optimised but it shouldn't be necessary to detect the drive. i think something else might be amiss.

if i'm wrong, you can try these. i have the zip version for my desktop but i just checked in the inf file and it supports mobile chipsets as well..

Cheers I'll try these but for some unknown reason the windows 7 disc I'm using cannot see the drive.

! Solved.

I've been using a multi version USB of 7 to install for a few years now but decided to use a standard Win 7 HP SP1 DVD and it has found the drive and installing now. I must admit this is the first time the multi has let me down in any way and i must have performed several hundred installations with it.

Thanks for all the replies.

Check in the BIOS that the SATA is set as AHCI (might not be able to on that laptop)

-Use a Windows SP1 DVD

-Check it's seated in correctly!

-Download one of these, extract the files to USB and browse for them during install.

No options in the BIOS for ACHI (strange I know !)

I use the driverpacks normally for most installs with DP13 app.

Def an issue with install via USB drive plus I've just noticed I was using the USB 3.0 port, which should not have made a difference but you never know.

At least it is going now. Forgot how long it took with a DVD :D !
