Sony Viao SZ 2XP LED screen backlight dead.

Hi guys, my brothers fancy sony viao's LED screen has gone blank, although it's the backlight, since you can just about see the image if you put a light to it.

Is it possible/easy to change the backlight yourself? How much would it cost to get a shop to do it?

Is this really bad or easily fixable?

i think the backlight and lcd are one component in this model so i guess your looking at a replacement screen, its easy diy to replace if you can get the part

He didn't just install gfx drivers from that laptop site that offers hacked ones did he?

Thanks for the replies. A replacement screen will be expensive... Like £200 at least I think. Thats a shame.

And no, he didn't install any new drivers, he barely knows what drivers are. And it was working fine but suddenly died.

Might be an inverter fault
