Do you think it would be a poor purchase then?

I'm looking some something sleak and cheap to tie me over until new year when i wanna get a decent win8 laptop...

As a cheap laptop for travelling about with it isn't bad, the CPU portion of it is pretty weak so don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. It would be fine for surfing/Youtube/iPlayer etc and certainly much better than an Atom nebook. I would not say bad purchase. The price is fairly close to getting a 15.6" budget laptop though, so if the small size isn't a priority maybe add £50 and get something bigger...

Unless you actually doing anything are CPU heavy, upgrade it from HDD to a SSD and it will makes you fly through pretty much everything.
