But has pricing really put people off, if you look at sales figures the PS3 has actually sold more since its launch than the Xbox 360 has in the same time period, the thing that has helped the Xbox 360 is that was launched 1 full year ahead of the PS3 giving it over all better sales figures.
I think Sony have to try and get the PS4 released either before or at the same time as the new Xbox this time round.
More interested in what Nintendo are going to come up with to be honest. We all know MS and Sony will be pushing as hard as they can for the best graphics and most power, Nintendo are the wildcards that we don't know what they have up their sleeves.
The Wii seems to have proven the general public not that bothered by graphics so i would expect the Wii2 or whatever it going to be called to be no more powerful than the Xbox360 or PS3. Overall my guess is that its hardware will be very similar to the Xbox360 with a multi core power PC based processor and ATI graphics GPU to allow backwards capability.

My MAIN hope, is neither Microsoft or Sony's next release has anything remotely like the Wiimote. If it does I'll be very unhappy. Natal and the Ps3 version are coming soon, And Im praying they will remain a peripheral in the next gen.
Next Nintendo console will be almost as powerful as a 360 and will have a natal like sensor, nintendo will push out a lot of facial recognition "mood" games.
Next Microsoft console will be pretty powerful but I wouldn't expect anything groundbreaking, new controller will have a sixaxis sensor, launch games will be GOW 3, Halo X and Call of Duty: Future warfare.
Next Sony console... Who knows? We'll have to wait a year or two, look at what technology Sony are trying to push into the mainstream, will probably have some kind of built in toaster. Of course Sony will act like they're the king of the world regardless.

Could 3D be a big feature in Next Gen gaming do you think. It's coming into movies more and more now, and if you've seen avatar, it works quite nicely.
I don't think 3D will have enough time to become widely used in the home before the next consoles are released.
I guess it's possible, see if many upcoming Sony Pictures movies are going to be in 3D
I still think it will be a good while yet. From a PC gamers point of view, many people here would say a PS4 that can do 1080p with 4xAA on all games would be enough for another console release but it wouldn't sell. The average man on the street standing in HMV watching/playing a FIFA12 demo isn't going to be impressed by that. As limited as the PS3 might appear, it's still plenty good enough for its purpose.
I woudn't be too surprised if the PS4 is download only. They have already done that with the PSP GO and 2nd (3rd, 4th, 5th) hand games sales must harm Sony.

I'm going to guess that they won't do that. Plenty of countries around the world (including the UK) networks just wouldn't cope at all with people downloading 25GB+ games.
Not to mention the storage costs would be horrific if each game was 20GB+ then unless Sony put in a couple of TBs then it would be filled in no time.
I can't see that changing within the next 2 years or so and it would be a huge mistake for Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo to go download only in the upcoming generation IMO
The PSP Go has not sold well, so i doubt Sony will pull that one again anytime soon.
Its an extremely attractive business model though so it will be here sooner rather than later - as soon as BB is capable...
Perhaps we should be thankful for uncompressed textures and audio filling up BDs currently
More food for thought for the PS5 than PS4 considering how much Sony pushed BD (though it also pushed UMD on the PSP too)

With both the PS3 and 360 releasing motion control, i doubt the new consoles will appear until about 2 years from now.
E3 will just showcase the motion controls again. Maybe finally show the final models for both, prices and final names too.
as far as downloads go, maybe a partnership with Steam? i mean if you have a PC and download a PS4 or xbox 3 game, it would be nice if Steam or a similar type of client could stream the game across a local network. would be far superior to optical media in bandwidth, latency not to mention storage costs for a PC are now very cheap (expecially compared to 2.5" drives).
As an option that would be very nice. some of us with ADSL2+ LLU connections would have no probs downloading 50GB. would be done overnight and the ISPs don't bat an eyelid. cable is a different story as are non-LLU adsl ISPs.
