Sony Xperia 1 IV or Samsung S22+

I've got the choice of these two but I'm not sure which one to go for. Can anyone offer up some experience with either of them please as I'm on the fence!

I use the fingerprint sensor a lot, so that has to be good. My current Xperia XZ Premium has been an awesome phone with very reliable fingerprint reader. But the camera is starting to age and there's been a few freezes requiring a reboot - although I've done a clean up and removed a lot of apps and so far so good. But I think it's time for a change anyway.

The main things I use the phone for are:

  • Fingerprint sensor for access to various banks, pensions, authentication software etc.
  • Photography is important (I find myself leaving the A9 on the shelf a lot now. Video not so much, but still want good video.
  • Watching streaming videos (Netflix etc)
  • SatNav (so good GPS)

Some general business such as emails, calendar etc. Don't really game on a phone, but a bigger screen and more powerful phone may encourage that.

I always liked the idea of the Sony Xperia phones but always felt disappointed both with their crazy soft launch/real launch schedule differences and the general support afterwards hasn't been great.

Was it considered a lemon just because of the battery? The Pixel 6 Pro was also in the mix and it apparently doesn't have a great battery but I'm usually near a charger anyway.

If you're using the phone for photography then I really would recommend saving a bit longer for the S22 Ultra - the cameras on it as many will tell you in the S22 thread are awesome!

Cheers, it's a business contract with a hardware fund so money isn't an issue, but I still don't want to 'overpay' for something I may not need. The ultra cameras do look great, although not sure it would be enough to offset the curved bevel screen thing that I don't like. I'm wondering if the Pixel 7 Pro is worth waiting for? The Pro 6 low light looked pretty poor.
 
Thanks, I've just found out that the Pixel 7 Pro is available to me so now need to start researching it. I don't normally do so much research into things, but I keep my phones for a long time so want to get it right.
