Sony's 11th June Announcement

I heard they have 3 MMO's, except you only pay when you buy the game, you don't pay per month.

That's only going to reaffirm what everyone thinks; SOE games are rubbish. The lack of a subscription fee will show that.

I'm hoping it's something about rumble, or more information on upcoming blockbusters.

SOE games are very good and SOE make a fortune. The lack of subscription didn't mean everyone thought Guild Wars sucked. They will just pay for it through expansions.

Over at mmorpg.com EQ2 is the 2nd highest rated game, only behind Lotr. Which is very good going considering LOTR is the new fad at the moment and EQ2 is getting on a wee bit. And in the top 15 there are 3 SOE games and WoW only registers at 16. So i don't think everyone thinks SOE games are rubbish.

SOE games are very good excluding all the crap ones I guess. ;)

As for the ratings at mmorpg.com I don't think you can look to much into them. Ratings for show, Subscribers for dough, to coin a darting phrase.

If EQ2 rates so high why does the vast majority play WoW?

I would love to know why so many play WoW tbh. Though i guess the 14 y/o's who shoutOMG YOU ******* N00B, every 5 minutes is a big market :p
(yes i did play WoW for a bit)

SOE isn't struggling for subscribers either, if you read the report in the NY times.
I was replying to the statement that everybody thought SOE games where rubbish. That was just showing that people who play MMO's do not think that SOE games are indeed crap.
Anyone who says SOE games are crap usualy say the Matrix Online (which SOE didn't develop, but rescued) and Star Wars galaxies, which tbh i don't know if it was good before and then they changed it.

As for subscriber numbers, you can't say they are low, because you don't know, neither do i, SOE don't let them be known. But i think you would be surprised.

The problem with subscribers numbers and SOE games is they have the Station pass which they can use to obscure actuall playing figures for any of the games which come under that (of which EQ2 is one of them).
Also why did they previously make publich the number of subs they had and now they dont? Possibly don't like to be portrayed as the former King of the Hill?

As for SWG, they had the chance to have possibly the greatest mmorpg of all time, but the task of fixing the bugs and balancing the game was simply beyond them. They lost a lot of credibillity because of the handling of SWG.

Because once you leave the Barrens that doesn't happen that often :p I put WoWs success down to the low system req's, the low number of gameplay bugs, the stability of the client, and the fact that its easy to get into.

I heard that as long as a game has 50k subscribers, SOE break even on it.

Not to mention mmorpg.com is not a truly unbiased source. Let's face it, SOE mmorpgs are average and mediocre. I'm sure you all remember Star Wars Galaxies and Matrix being butchered. There's also EQ2 which has failed to escape the chains of mediocrity that has blighted it since release, despite several expansions.

MMORPG.com is going to be the place where a lot of MMO players go no?
IIRC EQ2 has grown leaps and bounds and is getting generally noticed for such, many people are starting to play EQ2 becuase it has got so much better since release.
They didn't butcher MXO, MXO was awful in the first place lol And they inherited it off wb. They had nothing to do with the initial development of the game.
