Sony's Price cut.. Not acctually a Price Cut?

Eurogamer: What about the PS3 price cut? Do you think USD 100 is significant enough to boost their installed base?

Peter Moore: Interestingly, I didn't see a price cut, and I must have been reading the wrong thing. It's still 499 and 599.

His point is, that once they are gone it's back to its original price I believe.

As for Peter Moore, my mate said he was a really nice guy as well.

One thing I don't get is why Sony have felt the need to add an extra 20Gb to the console? Is 60Gb not enough? and if so why isn't every region getting the 80Gb version?

The 80 Gb was meant to offset some of the effect of the "Elites" 120 Gb drive. As for other regions I'm guessing either high stock levels of existing models still in retailers or cost.

Exactly my thoughts. Maybe Sony want to brain-washed people into thinking 'bigger must be better'!

exactly. thats why Peter Moore rocks, he sees things objectively.

The same Peter Moore who dismissed the 360 fault reports with "[size=-1]Y'know, things break".

And his determination to have an American accent is cringeworthy.

Things do break, its just that Microsoft things break more often ;)

I am not surprised by this move, Sony where not expected to drop the price until more software arrives ( around november - march ) to line up with mgs4 and ff13 next year to maintain the momentum that those games would create in terms of sales. It is a backhanded move but if sony think that they will sell more machines than at the moment when the games due for release for the holidays arrive they will try to hold on for the extra revenue. This could backfire but I think the bundle announced for europe will see a price drop to around the £300 -£350 mark around october and a likewise price drop in the states. It looks like they are clearing the channel of 60 gig stock in the US to go with a standard 80 gig sku which will then be reduced in price in time for the holiday sales period.

Isn't this price cut something to do with the current exchange rate though? Why would they do it for the US but not the UK - theres no other reason really.
