Hi everyone, So Im way waaay out of the loop when it comes to modern TVs Unfortunately so I’m looking for some help and advice and I just read about this online with Sony releasing their “ready for ps5” range x90h/xh90 series.

So here’s the stupid question. My 52hx903 which is approx 7-8yr old and has been an outstanding tv for me so I’m not going to upgrade just yet. I know I know the answer but it will work with the ps5 right? I mean why wouldn’t it? I know its not 4K or hdr etc but I can play the ps5 on it surely. Albeit at only 1080p

Also if I was to upgrade to this new range that Sony are pushing would this be the minimum to look for? Here some specs for their new range.

HDMI 2.1, Supports 4K/120 FPS, And I loved this bit as not many manufacturers usually give this info. Low input lag 7.2ms.

Now this seems brilliant with just this small bit of info but what about support for hdr. Do all decent TVs have this now?

I don’t really care what smart features they have as I use my PS4 for all my needs and soon the ps5 but I believe the android smart system they use is good.

What else should I look out for if I would like to have it “future proof” as I do tend to get attached and keep things for quite a while so I want to make the right choice.

Mid range is fine and I would like to say around £1000 would be my limit but a bit extra for something more superior would be ok.

I’m not really into the whole oled thing as I believe they suffer with screen burn and their probably out of my price range anyway.

I do like Sony TVs which is the reason the article caught my eye but I’m open to suggestions.

Any help advice much appreciated

Oh I forgot to say that around 55” is more than enough for me. Anything bigger would probably be too much for our living room.

Yes it is.

Confusingly, full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 is 48Gbps but most current HDMI 2.1 ports only support 40Gbps

On current 10bit OLED panels, this isn't really an issue though.

It depends how long you intend to keep the TV. HDMI 2.1 will support 4K120 and nothing's coming near that for a while, despite what Sony and Microsoft say.

55" LG B9, C9 or CX.

All 4 HDMI ports are 2.1
Unfortunately OLED pixel degradation is still a problem for those TVs.

I've got an LG B7 myself, love it and it's great if you know what you're getting yourself into, however while burn in talk is often scare mongering, at some stage the degradation of pixels will happen, and it'll happen faster if you aren't careful with how you use the TV, particularly with more content being HDR ready and people not applying the correct settings.

Think they increased the red pixel size for greater resiliency with the 8 series, but it's still sadly the major downside to owning an OLED set. I'd only recommend them if the intention is to watch mixed content - films, games and TV and not whack the OLED light to 100 whilst sticking it on Sky Sports News/Sky News all day.
