iv just added another hard drive and wi-fi card to my pc, plus taking out the floppy that was in there and now i have the problem that the pc doesnt seem to boot up when i turn it on!? it has power but wont start any of the fans on the board and the screen wont find a signal! please help me as this is becoming very irritating!!!!! any suggestions please

cheers dave

Check all power cables and connectors are attached and have become loose or moved out of there socket.

Remove the new hard drive and wifi card and see if any of these are giving you problems.

Few questions some may seem daft :p

Does the motherboard have led to show that it is receiving power?

When the power switch is pressed the machine does nothing or do the fans start then stop.
Doubled checked the header cables which go to the power led on the case and case power on switch, you checked power cables above you may already checked this bit :).

Can you list the full spec.

when i boot the pc the power fan is the only 1 that runs, the two on the mother board dont even start! umm i cant really do the spec as its an older pc with a lot of add-ons!?

No probs :)

Almost sounding like the motherboard or psu has given up the ghost!

Is it possible to test with bare minimum, ie one memory module, cpu, Hard disc and gpu, also try a CMOS reset.

Suggests psu is fine, though this is not definite.

I propose strip the entire thing down and rebuild. Failing that really obsessively check all the cables.

Hardware fault would probably be motherboard, don't suppose you hit it with a screwdriver or anything like that? If it hadn't just been opened and played with I'd be more inclined to blame the psu, but at present I think you knocked the board.

^trying to boot with minimum components is a very good thing to do. However you don't need the hard disk attached, and if just trying to get error beeps you dont really need the graphics card attached. At the least it should beep at you if you take out all the memory then try to boot
