Just ordered 2 titan blacks... feels like ive stabbed myself in betrayal!

Unfortunately after going through the best part of 30 cards and 3 psus to find a coil whine free card, I have 1 so far.

Time to give green a try....

The whine on my 290 is annoying, didn't even notice it up until i put a block on it.
Just hope my other blocked up 290 isn't the same. Wont be doing any gaming if that's the case.

Exactly my problem, plus I use this PC for work, so if ive got a render running for a client in the background, after 10-15 minutes the whine does your head in.

I built my PC for next to perfect silence, not to listen to coilwhine.

Did you change mobo at all? Considering some power comes through the mobo to the cards which has a chance to be providing a different voltage to the PSU, I would certainly of tried that.

But almost 30 cards, considering I've never had coil whine on any amd or nvidia card, those that get it, it's still rare. Just a case of those that don't have a problem don't post on the internet, those that have a problem do. But one person having more than 20 cards with coil whine is effectively a statistical impossibility. I also have trouble when I think about where I would buy 20+ 290's from at good prices and repeatedly RMA'ing them to companies and having them accept it.

Mobo is the only thing which I havent changed as I have tested it with a known coilwhineless card and... no whine :)

And when I mean 0 whine, I mean ZERO, not low levels that you cant hear over a fan or you cant hear in a closed case.

So lets answer some questions.

1) Yes, I have extremely sensitive hearing, its plagued me for years. My PC is a show PC, so is on the desk next to me. About 2 feet away.

2) Nearly all cards are reference cards, I tried various manufacturers based on reports that some have made minor changes (such as powercolor supposedly putting glue on the coils to quieten them). The quietest cards overall were Asus custom PCB, though they still had noticeable noise.

3) The mobo has been tested with a card with known - whine from my current PC. No whine.

4) PSU tried with a Corsair 1200i, a EVGA supernova 1200 and a Superflower 1200. Tried this for 12 cards. And chanding the PSU's made no difference, all other cards were tested with the corsair only.

5) All these purchases and RMA's done via rainforest, I like OcUK too much to abuse them like I have been the tax evading rainforest company.

The only constants are the CPU and the motherboard, but as I have already tested both of these with a known silent graphics card, I have ruled them out.

The only conclusion im left with is the 290x power design is flawed. So hence trying for some titans. EVGA recognise whine as a fault, and after speaking to a rep have agreed that if im not happy they will advance RMA as many cards as it takes to get the issue sorted.

They might be they might not. For the cost of a motherboard, in most cases cheaper than psu's and certainly than the graphics cards you're trying, it's mad to not try a different mobo, it's as simple as that.
.

If when the titans arive they have *any* noise at all, i'll switch out the mobo and CPU just to make sure.

(unless they know a way to stop it and don't bother?)

Supposedly, Titans were engineered in a way to reduce the chances of it happening. Be this through component choices or something else I don't know, but at this time im so sick of coil noise im willing to take anything.

And how is all this helping/talking to the OP?
Try And keep On topic guys

Ive got both titans now plugged in and working, silently... nothing more to be said. I spent and sent back thousands of pounds worth of AMD cards all due to coil noise. I was willing to stick it out as I had/have a preference to AMD cards, every since my Hercules 9800XT which was a beast in the day!

The first 2 NV cards I buy, silent.

Draw your own conclusions, im just happy to have 2 silent cards to enjoy :)

Am still not believing this :p 30 GPUs is a lot of money and re-delivery price also. And then all of them 30 GPUs to have whine. Lol

I don't care I find this hard to believe if you want to prove me wrong then go for it.
Until then I find this thread total bs

Prove me wrong and I'll hold me hand up and say sorry. :p
