Hi all

Firstly sorry i am a noob with oc'ing and i am sorry if this is another tread that is repeated.......

Anyway just built my first system.

Asus PK5C mobo
Gigabyte 8800GT 512 (the 1 with the Zalman cooling)
E6400
Geil Black Dragon PC2-6400 800Mhz ram (2gb)
Corsair HX520 520 Watt PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 CPU Cooler
All in a Antec 900 case running Vista 32bit.

Now i think i have overclocked it to 3ghz.

What i have done in the bios is change the FSB to 378 and thats it!!!

Since updating the bios to the latest last night i now cant seem to change the multipler which is set to 'Auto' but i was able to change it before that but the max was 8.

I have run the Orthos stress test and it all seem fine. Temps on TAT show at idle 28c ish and 47c ish while testing for half hour (but cpu temp in Asus AI suite show temps 19c ish idle and 38c at load also the fans speed don't seem to increase at load temp, yes Qfan is enabled). R these temps OK??

If somebody can let me know how to add a screenshot i will add some of CPU-Z and TAT so you can see the info.

If what i have done is correct what do i need to do next to get it faster.....

Read about needing to do stuff to ram and voltages, but i am still learning this art and am not sure.

Thanks

Mark

Change PCI-E freq. from AUTO to 100 or 101. If you have left the memory settings on AUTO, just run CPU-Z and see what speeds/timings if has decided for you.

ok hope this works but below should be 2 screen shots. 1st idle 2nd load.

its ok the we can copy and paste hehe, as mame said can you see on the memory tab on the cpu-z what the timings of the ram have been set at? If it has been left on auto it might not be totally correct!

Well first you could do with running Orthos for about 6hours to check that overclocks stable. Then increase the fsb, test...if it fails add more vcore, repeat.
Well thats the basics of it, you should ofcourse, follow the guide in the overclocking forum.

Ok They say

dram freq 378 mhz
fsb:dram 1:1
cas#latency 5.0 clocks
ras# to cas# delay 5 clocks
ras# precharge 5 clocks
cycle time 15 clocks

command rate 2t

everything else is blank.

So does it look like i am doing things right????

will i need to start doing 'stuff' with the ram if i increase cpu speed any more?

What do you think the best oc speed is that i will get??

Ok So i have had a further play and put in a FBS of 396. Everything else is on auto, did increase it to 416 but the Orthos failed after 21 sec so reverted back to 396.

From the screen shot below does all reading look ok and if i changed the voltage from auto do you think it would be stable if i set it to a voltage??(But to what voltage??)

Also are the memory timing which are set to auto ok or do i need to set it to 100 or 101 as suggested by Mame. (when set to 416 the cycle time was 18 clocks)

Again Thanks.
