So when it comes to monitors im really not that good, i dont pretend to know much about them as i dont :p. Iv done a bit of reading and it seems IPS panels seem to the best in terms of quality? But then people rave about 120 Mhz refresh rates, but i cant find any IPS panels that have a refresh rate above 60, so im confused as to what to go for

Im looking to treat my self for xmas and I have a budget of £500 (max) and will only really use monitor for gaming. I have a i5 2500k and GTX 580 if that info will help at all? I currently have a 20" HP monitor, im looking to go a bit bigger maybe to 23 - 24".

So my question is what would be the best monitor(s) i could within my budget?

sorry im a complete monitor noob lol so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Going on recent experiences of a Hazro 27" (IPS) and an ASUS 27" 120hz (TN).

The Hazro definately looked better in Windows. The IPS panel was generally more vibrant and richer. Gaming on it was fine as well. The 2560x1440 resolution was more practical. There was no OSD though on the model I had.

On the ASUS I definately noticed a big difference in the smoothness of FPS games. It was significantly better in fact. It was a step down with regards to desktop use. Strangely though since I have RMA'ed the Hazro, I have gotten used to the ASUS on the desktop (as I believe your eyes do gradually become accustomed to what you are looking at). The resolution though is pretty impractical if you will be using the desktop a lot and want lots of windows open.

Not an expert at all. This is just through using for a period of time.

Thanks for getting back to me, I looked at the Hazro's but it seems a bit of a lottery with quality and the customer service doesnt look to be too good. I think a 27 " monitor would look out of place in my little office. Im looking more for a 23" - 25", Im starting to learn more towards the 120Hz refresh rate as every body seems to have glowing comments about how smooth gaming is.

Im still non the wiser which monitor i should choose tho
