So, after a lot or reaserch I have come up with the following specification for my budget of £750....

Processor - E6300 intel core2Duo OEM ~£110

Memory - geil PC6400 2gb ~£170

Harddrive - 320Gb Seagate 7200.10, 16MB Cache ~£67

Graphics card - HIS X1950Pro IceQ3 Turbo 512 ~£165

PSU - Corsair HX 520W ~£70

CPU Cooler - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro ~£17

The prices are approx.
The above leaves me with £150.... see below.

Now before u all scream at me, I have left a motherboard out on purpose as i am in need of some suggestions !

The motherboard basically has to be...

1. good at overclocking the e6300 (on air)
2. support an upgrade to quad core for the future
3. have an ide interface as well as sata (to make use of my old drives for storage)
4. Support crossfire
5. Be compatible with the nvidia 8 series gpus (at least one 16x pci-e)

thats about all I can think of now, so what do people think, with a budget of £150, which motherboard ??

Thanks for you time,
Arge

Just noticed, these boards do have IDE channels, but they only have one which maybe taken up by your optical drive, you will be able to put 2 drives on this channel but no more. If you really need your old IDE drives as storage then you may have to purchase and IDE controller card that fits into a PCI slot.

any other suggestions ?

Like the look of the P5b Deluxe, would it support crosfire with a driver hack ?

Bumpy Bumpy !!

Also how does the spec look to people ? anything need changing ?

It should be good as a budget gaming rig paired with my 22" asus, iv spent like two weeks researching it so should be ok !

Cheers

The spec looks great to me and once you find a suitable motherboard you should have a great system.

Do you really need the mobo to support crossfire? You seem to be planning to buy an 8800 anyway so why limit your choice?

SirriuB, i was just thinking in terms of dropping another 1950pro in as a "bridge" between one ati and the upgrade to an 8800 or sumthing. But come to think of it, the prices will prob have droppen enough in a year to get one and im sure the x1950 pro will last me out for a year !

Anyway Im pretty sure now i have decided on an Asus p5b deluxe/WiFi but seeing as Ocuk doesnt stock these i will have to purchase this from somewhere else. But i will be ordering the rest of the system from Ocuk sometime tonight !!!

keep an eye out for my final thread when im about to order !

the 1950 pro should last you a long while they are cracking cards for the money i dont think you will need to sli really, i have one to use for 6months till i get a new dx10 monster in early sumer, at a res of 1280x1024 it plays anything thre is out at the mo and high settings

My X1900XT plays anything I throw at it with a res of 1680x1080. They really are good cards and you don't need to crossfire them.

siriusB, thats the p5w wich i think uses the 795 chipset instead of the 695 which overclocks the core2s slightly better.

oh and thanks for the heads up on the sig, will get it changed asap !

I think i will get the p5b deluxe/wifi from another site and get the rest from here.

thats my spec all decided then, except if you could all reccomend me some quiet 120mm fans thats would be great - see my thread in the overclocking&cooling forum.

thanks guys

*getting excited!!*
