I got the whole series of a show for Christmas & suddenly vlc won't start playing the dvd when it is put it. Ok so I open the dvd & try to play one of the vob file, first I get input output error, now it play 1-2 secs then stops, but the vid. looks like it is just a green screen those few secs. The odd thing is I played 1 epp. from another dvd a few secs before in vlc. Thinking it might have been the dvd I tried another, no luck. A vid. that wasn't a .vob on the HDD played fine.

Not that one, but I have through the one that says videos & it tells me it can not be read. I install mplayer, but it didn't put it in the menu. I have Cinamin.
Thanks, got it working again. Not sure why cause the Mint-media-codecs weren't uninstalled before when it messed up, but I reinstalled them & it seems to work now.
