Sorry if this is a silly question...

I have just fitted 4gb of Kingston ram in my PC, courtesy of OCUK special offer, this is 8500, but when I check CPU-Z it says it's running at 6400, like the ram I replaced.

I've checked the mobo bios, and the memory setting is set to auto, with options for 1066mhz etc.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? My system spec other than ram is in my signature, and I run Win XP.

Many thanks :)

The motherbaord manufacturers don't test their motherboards on PC2-8500. Therfore, they are unoffically supported, hence PC2 8500 is often refered to as overclockers RAM. Just set the DRAM frequency to the required setting and you'll be fine.

A quick question, does that motherboard support that speed of memory (1066mhz)?

If it's this ram, just read the bottom bit.

1066MHz at a latency timing of 5-5-5-15 at 2.2V

Basically, take a look in your bios and you will see what you are looking for.

DRAM Frequency - 1066mhz
DRAM Voltage - 2.2v

I forgot what the other one is labelled as, it will probably be different anyway, it normally varies.

Hope this helps

Also, check your motherboard manual for help, I'm sure it will say how to there :)

Nothing to be scared of because you aren't overclocking anything as the system bus isn't changing. All you are doing is changing the speed of the effective RAM which is tested at the rated 1066MHz. Therefore, your system and memory will be operating Asynconously, which is fine.

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon, but just got my own 8GB of Kingston delivered :)

I have an ASUS P5Q Pro, I've have never messed with voltages, but just tried setting it to 1066 in my BIOS and it didn't seem to work, CPUZ shows it as 534.3Mhz. Do I just need to set the DRAM voltage to 2.2?
