Hi all,

sorry if this has been asked million times before but I am coming from Android but my partner and family all use apple phones so time for me to change.

are iPhone XS Max still ok and battery life any good? as on my mate pro it was brilliant. Sorry to asked but haven’t had a iPhone since 5s

The phones are great but Battery on the XS Max is so so really. From experience, with an average days use, I got the low battery warning around 8pm but with a heavy day that can be a little earlier.
If you want even better battery life than the Mate Pro then you should go with the 11 Pro Max. Best battery on any phone currently.

If I were you, Id go for the newer 11 models, they have outstanding battery compared with last years models

I get 6-7 hours SoT with an XS just surfing and using non-intensive apps. Some games can reduce that battery life significantly. The XS Max battery is a little better than the XS.

One thing iPhones are outstanding at is standby life. You can leave the phone off charge for hours without it significantly draining the battery. Unlike my experience of Android where the battery drips away continuously.

Battery life on the XS Max is not good.

For reference the latest Pro Max is rated the one of the best in the business at around 15.5 hours and the XS Max is not much better than an iphone 7 - rated at around 10 hours.

I would recommend a big standard Iphone 11 (rated for around 14 hours) over an XS Max.

iPhone XS Max 47% battery and haven’t charged it since yesterday morning. Getting good use too because pc is out of action.

I bought it for the battery after watching YouTube comparisons. I wanted something that would last me all day in London with enough juice to make sure I could always find my way home.

A typical day sees me going to bed with 85% battery left

Interesting the very different points of view of people actually using iPhones vs people reading spec sheets.

Consumerism is rife in society, always seeking the next big thing. The only unusual thing is how unusually good the battery in the new iPhone is thanks to advanced power saving tech.

It doesn't mean the Xs is rubbish at all.

All iPhones tend to have better power preservation than android also.

You use 15% in an entire day? That doesn't sound very believable or you cant use it very much at all.

My iPhone sits on 100% for about 30 minutes of SoT before it drops to 99% and starts falling more consistently. My old 6S+ did exactly the same thing. I can easily see that someone who uses their phone for an hour per day will go to bed with it on 85%.

Depends on the benchmark for usage.

Real usage of these phones with most of their features has been a real problem and that is where the older phones fall down.

Whatever apple have done with the screen and radio hardware on the 11 pro max have provided a 35-40% increase in battery life, for my use case, over the 8 plus.

If i tried to use a 6 plus with wi-fi hotspot on the battery indicator it would have about half the battery life (6-7 hours) versus my 11 pro max which lasts a full day.

They said clearly the battery improvements come from CPU optimization - the A13 chip turns off the entire chip bar only the bit it needs to use, which no processor has done to this level before.

the calculation appears to be Battery (a massive 3969mAh) > More efficient screen > and then a 5% delta which is attributed to the a13. source: Anandtech.

to be fair I the XS Max is not a poor phone, it is just handicapped by a screen that burns too much juice without the battery to compensate for it.
