Sorry it is a 330ci thread.

Are you dead set on the 330 or are you open to options?

They will conduct a high premium but it also means residuals should be good. There are other coupes out there (if thats what you're after) that would give you something newer for less (Pug 406 coupe maybe) but wont match the quality of the BMW and will have weaker residuals.

If youre not set on it being a coupe then there are loads of other cars, depending on what you want out of one

Can't comment on the 330ci, however the Integra DC5 will easily out-match the performance of the 330Ci albeit without any of the luxury!

Cheaper to run, arguably more fun to drive, but far far less refinement!

Oh dear.....

Yes, buy a DC5 if you want to possibly be marginally quicker than a 330i and have your head explode in the process from ragging the engine to death in order to get anywhere.

Yeah it depends on what you want from a car really, the 330 is a great mix of performance and refinement. The DC5 would give you great performance but as said would sacrifice the refinement, or for example an Alfa GT would sacrifice the performance but would be a lovely place to be and is much newer.

Oh sod off would you. He asked after other suggestions and had the RX8 and Civics on the shortlist, both of which are revy cars. I clearly said that it was less refined.

Get off of your VTEC is **** bandwagon, moron

Sorry, but can't you see why I had to "lol". You stated that you "can't comment on the 330i" yet proceed to tell him that a DC5 will easily out match a 330i. It won't,....ever. Its marginally lighter, less powerful, slower top speed, etc.

I'm not bashing them at all, I like the Vtecs in the right car (S2000) and there's certainly no need for uneducated insults unless you're trying to justify something to yourself.

Sorry if you think I was being harsh though.

To the OP, I don't think real CSL wheels are an option due to the offest hubs that the M cars have. Might have to be replicas.

I'm set on a 330 in the sense that i can't see anything better. I'm open to options though, i just have yet to see any that will match.
The dc5 and alfa gt will cost a lot more to buy and i'd really prefer rwd.

I just can't seem to find anything that will match in terms of quality and features for under 10k. But then it comes back round to the fact that i'm spending the same amount on a 8 year old car when my friends are buying brand new (albeit terrible shopping cars) for the same price. I'm not even sure if it should bother me.

Fair comment on the RWD, I do miss it after having my MR2 turbo for a few years :)

Don't be fooled with the costs though, you can pick up a very nice pre-facelift example for under £10k :)

And yet the S2k only has a marginal power increase over the DC5 and weighs almost 100Kg more.

I'm basing my argument on facts and figures based on my lack of experience with the 330ci, however the 330 is 325Kgs heavier than the DC5 - this is hardly marginally lighter.
With the power output, the 330 is listed as 231bhp vs the 220bhp of the DC5 and a top speed difference of 155mph vs 145mph is negligible since he's never likely to see those speeds.

On track and on the twisties, I'm confident that the Teg would out-perform a 330ci.

The OP has stated that the 'Teg doesn't suit his ideal outfit, and so be it. I was just opening up the floor to discussions.

Its a fair comment, but you shouldn't really be concerned with what others think about you or your car. My main concern when buying a car of this age would be that it hasn't be abused and its general condition is still very good or excellent.

To be honest, you're probably right - the 330Ci is quite a unique beast, there's not a huge amount thats comparible. Your 8 year old 8k 330ci might be worth 6k in 2 years time but your friends' 8k shopping trolleys will probably be worth 3k.

I wouldnt consider a DC5 in the same category - they're pretty different. Alfa GT is probably more like it but reliability is bound to be an issue (i'm an ex-alfa owner... i've been there!). Saying that, I'd love a GT and its a heart decision rather than a head one.

CLK is probably the only other thing thats even similar

Thats fair enough. For the record though, I list the 330ci as being 1400kg and the DC5 being 1172kg (and 217bhp). Although, in fairness, that is still two regular size men sat in the car! lol

It would be an interesting battle, that is for certain, but it is not "easily out match" territory. Track and twisties would play to the 330ci's RWD favour I think.

There's only one way to settle this.. FIIIIIIIIIGHT! :)

I think i was correct in thinking that there is nothing similar to the 330 in terms of value for money.

Depends entirely on your definition of value for money. If you could stretch a couple of thousand more then this was a £70K coupe/GT when new and would be of the same age as the 330's you're looking at.

However running costs are in an altogether different league and it is in no way a driver's car. You'll pay even less if you have another two doors on it too. It's always the same with these things second hand, the bigger the car the better VFM.

Of the cars you've considered I'm guessing you're looking at not-too-hardcore coupes and the like? Again, I don't know if there's any scope for budget creep, but dropping down into the sub £10K category asre 350Zs and Vauxhall Monaros and they'd be MY2004.

E46 330ci is a lovely car though. Had one myself and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I can't imagine the build quality being better than the 330?

It's not. It is a lot worse if my brother's example is anything to go by. Switches that fall through the dash, nasty plastics and wibbly wobbly bits of trim do not make it a car especially well put together IMO. Cracking drive though.
