Hi Again!

I created a thread last year about buying a new GPU and after reading some of the posts I ended up getting one of the 7970 Matrix cards which was on a crazy good offer at OCUK. Unfortunately the card was returned as I was having issues with it and opted for a refund as there was no other stock.

I have managed to get through the Christmas period and still have that money saved and have also been able to add a bit more to my previous budget.

I currently have a EVGA GTX570 SC and currently play at 1920x1200 / 1920x1080 and have just a single 24" Dell monitor.

System spec:
Air cooled - NZXT Phantom Full Case
Intel 2600 CPU (not K edition) running at 3.95Ghz
MSI Mpower Z77 Motherboard
16GB Ram - Can't currently remember what speed / manufacturer.
2 x Samsung 840 SSD
Corsair HX750 PSU

I have been torn between both the Nvidia 780 and the ATi 290 and my budget is around the £400-450 area. Would it be worth digging a bit deeper and buying a 780ti? Would I notice much difference with my system for the extra cost?

The amount of heat the 290 non-ref seem to be running at is a bit of concern to me as my system is just air cooled and my room is always quite warm (20-27c).

Really appreciate your help and opinions.

Dan.

This Card would be nice and very silent... MSI GTX 780 Ti Gaming 3 GB Review | techPowerUp

If you OC the 290 (1150 MHz) you will get ~same results as the 780 Ti from MSI, but if the MSI Card bosst to 1140 MHz, it will be ~10% faster.
I think the Ti is @ same GPU Clock 10% faster.
The problem is, most Nvidia Cards can boost higher with some Voltage Tweak. For the 290s its hard to push further than 1150-1200 MHz.
So if you overclock both i think the Ti will be ~20% faster.

I am liking the the price/performance on the 290 but as I have had no issues with my Nvidia card and see a couple of issues with the 290 I am leaning towards the 780 a bit more.

I am thinking maybe the MSI or the Gigabyte as I recall they both have good RMA services and EVGA did have some issued with noise / coil whine on the 780's...
