Sorry, Spec me thread! s2000 type car

The S2000 is not a slow car - infact by any metric it is a fast car. It does however deliver its power differently to most.

350Z's etc are not faster than S2000's. If you actually do want something noticeably faster than a Honda S2000 you are going to need to move up into another league of ownership costs frankly.

I would imagine what you felt the S2000 lacked was a big wallop of low range torque from a turbo that you are used to and you probably won't find many NA engines that will fill that void if so.

I think you both (kenai and fox) are probably right, I didnt think it was slow as such, just slower than the previous car I had. the turbo does give you a big kick in the back which I have gotten used to and the s2000 couldnt be more different really, (was fun to drive though) I think Im either going to have to just be happy with the performance or go the modified car route again which has its own set of problems

the problem with Z4 ad 350Z type cars is that yes they have more power than an S2000 but the additional weight does not make them seem much quicker and in reality they aren't much faster.

An E46 M3 would feel noticeably faster than an S2000 for example (343BHP) but would cost a lot more to run.

I would suspect the not faster than an S2000 bit is just the power delivery, especially coming from a 2.0 turbo 200SX.

The reason the N52 in the 3.0Si develops more power than the M54 in the 3.0i is because it revs higher... it's not VTEC but its hardly a pile of low down torque either..

I went from an Astra VXR to a Z4M and that was fine torque wise IMO, the 3L is supposed to be torquer lower down as well.

Slightly left field and not like an S2000 but still RWD :- http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3804497.htm

I had actually looked into monaros before, perhaps a bit different from what I want but the power is certainly there, might be worth going to look at one if there is anything near me

Thats a totally different engine

It doesnt lack torque, its fine, however the power gains over the older engine come mainly through an increase in rpm - hence the torque figures between the two being closer than the bhp figures.

Personally I'm still suprised he found an S2000 not fast enough. Whats he want to do in it, be a getaway driver or something!?

haha not quite :p I guess im a little stupid in liking fast straightline speed, it just felt like a step down acceleration wise and I would find it hard to stomach I think

I'd be amazed if it was actually slower, it just feels different due to the way it delivers its power. Turbocharged cars always feel faster, this is why people with diesel Golfs think they drive hot hatchbacks.

How much straight-line speed do you want? :D
How long till you get bored of it?

S2000 could use a little more power in some circumstances but it's not in that much need of THAT much more power for 90% of the time.

I imagine the only thing of a similar vein that will be properly faster at around those costs is, as already mentioned, an FIed MX5.

If you want to feel faster than a 260bhp turbo'd car i reckon you'll need a 300+bhp N/A or go turbo again.

Whats your feelings on AWD? An impreza will feel a lot faster than an S2000 even though a stock example really isn't. However a modified one will be a lot faster than most stuff you'll come across.
