Sort by date taken? Headache!

Hi all

Trying to copy photos from an iPhone to an external drive - a simple copy and paste. I had to do this on my PC and thought I'd had it sorted. I've now looked on my Mac and can't find a sort by date taken. As a result all of the images are completely mixed up.

Any help on this? I've done some Googling and some people are recommending software. I literally just want to view photos that are in order every now and then, I'm not a photographer and don't want to be installing 3rd party apps for what I thought was a basic expectation?

Oh also, sort by date created isn't working because copying and pasting the images has appeared to (for some) made it seem that the pictures were created today... (day of transfer).

Spent all day doing this due to a host of issues (phone throwing out errors on windows pc) so I am a bit exhausted as I didn't expect something so simple to take so long.

Thanks all

Honestly, I'm just reviewing what I have transferred and its a nightmare. Literally all I wanted to do is copy and paste photos over and for them to be organised like they are on the phone. They're mixed up all over the place whether it be sort by name, date. Can't work it out to be honest, very puzzling.

Some sort by names are OK, then it goes AWOL. Some by date are ok, then it goes AWOL.

I'm not sure why apple aren't always using IMG_0001, IMG_0002 etc or something.... seems some do then it goes AWGJA2312U.jpg etc and its like where does that come from?!

As in you have more photos than you have iCloud space?

Surely temporarily upgrading your iCloud storage is the way forward? That would let you get everything onto the Mac in exactly the same way as you have it on the phone.
