Not like that, you filthy buggers!

The screen on my mum's laptop just died and she's been thinking about getting a proper PC anyway, so I need a low end spec for web and 1080p video if you'd be so kind :)
While she could just connect a monitor to the laptop, it's not really doing it's job properly these days anyway.

Budget: £500 MAX. Ideally less.

Peripherals needed:

1080p monitor
Keyboard (basic Ocuk one will be fine)
OS (have Win7 on the laptop, but it's OEM)

Stuff I have spare that can be re-used:

Alpenfohn K2
8gb DDR3 1333mhz (2x4gb)
60Gb Agility3 (currently in her laptop)
DVD/RW
Bitfenix Shinobi
Plenty of fans

While the Shinobi is fine, I/she wouldn't mind going for a SFF build.
Could also do with more HDD storage and wifi would be useful.

Thanks guys :)

theres a noob build made by me
you can re use everything, and save cash£££, especially the ssd, but kept every file on the hdd, only the windows and programs on ssd,
the cpu got a good graphics card, so theres no needed of gpu, for give and idea is good that can play battlefield 3 in ultra settings

Thanks, I was thinking AMD apu. Perhaps trinity or something.
It's just that my knowledge is more in the enthusiast/upper end of the market, so I have no idea what's going on at this price point :o.

I'll be wanting to stick with win7 and you'll get crucified for recommending those PSU's here :D

Btw, you can post a basket more easily by following these instructions :)

Could save a bit by re-using the shinobi case, unless you want a new SFF case.

My take for a solution to your mother's laptop problem :)

Reuse the OS from the Laptop to save monies :)

Won't it be locked to the motherboard and hardware of the laptop since its a OEM copy?

Thanks guys.
Yeah, she won't be gaming :D

Might be looking at a mini ITX build to go with a Prodigy perhaps. Saving cash and reusing the shinobi is an alternative though.

And yes, I have the oem win7 disk, but it'll be tied to the laptop hardware :(

I think sticking with the Shinobi would make sense, would enable you to get a decent monitor and an OS, with still enough for a decent every day system.

Just be aware that Foxconn mobo does`nt have the latest bios for IB Cpus. But if Pete has a SB chip lying around, it wont be a problem.
