Sorting out my decking... tools

My decking is in a bit of a state, I used decking restore to clean it up yesterday and now I want to sand it down.

There's about 60 square meters so I'm not doing it by hand, just tried using my electric sander and its not having it so I thought about a floorboard sander??

What do you think? Like the ones HSS do for sanding wooden floors?

Would it work? Can't see any reason why not..

Personall y I hate decking. But if it's anything like the decking in my garden (about to rip it up!) then it wouldn't work. My decking is grooved to stop people slipping in the wet and a floor sander would not get between the grooves.

it is grooved, I want to take the top layer off though, not fussed abut getting into the grooves [/madonna]

Don't use a finish thats going to sit on top of the wood as this will peel or wear away after a while. Use a stain that will soak into the timber to protect it and keep topping it up once a year.

Id have thought a floor board sander would do the job but it depends what the finish is like. If its all gummed up or damp it will probably just keep clogging the sandpaper.

not its completely clean and I won't do it unless its dry.

A hand sander is doing the job but there's loads of it, it took me about an hour to do a square meter and there's about 50 or 60 of them.

Personally I'd rather not have the stuff but the previous owner put it up and I guess if I can fix it it'll look good.

Its not just the dirt, the finish is quite rough too so I'm wanting to smooth it off.

Although to be honest the wood is so stained I doubt the pressure washer would make much of an impact.
