Sorting out my fan speeds

Hi there,

Using speedfan I've got the cpu fan a lot quieter and the cpu itself (Stock X2 3800+) is running at 34/35c idle, is that ok?

Now whats bugging me is the chipset fan. It's the loudest thing in my system and I cant seem to control it with speedfan. The board is a Asus A8N-E. Is there any other software that I can use to lower the speed of it, or is that not possible? If thats the case, could I replace it with a passive cooler or a quieter fan?

Thanks,

Mike

yeah, if you can connect it to a normal 3 pin fan header thats on your mobo you should be able to control it in speed fan then. just keep an eye on your temps of it though, slowing it down may result in quite a quick increase in temps on your NB

Just tried that and the wire isnt long enough to go to the nearest socket. Any ideas on how to make it longer?

Akasa AK-H254 60CM 3pin fan extension cable (CB-011-AK)

Would something like that do the trick?

Im using an Arctic Freezer 64 Pro for the cpu and I've used speedfan to lower the fan to an appropriate level. Im trying to lower the level of the chipset fan, which speed fan can't do.

The connector for the chipset fan is the standard 3 pin thing.

The zalman passive thing is great, I'm using it for my dfi sli-dr expert :) . It's actually a bit cooler than stock cooler, primarily because I already got great airflow running over it.

Which one have you got?
