Sorting out my PC, kinda messed up!

Sorry i dont understand the terms you are using, i know im on an overclocking forum but im not an avid user so maybe is there a simple way of putting it?

In the bios there is a option called cpu thermal monitor or something like that. It is basically a cpu overheating protection feature. If your cpu gets too hot, it will detect that and your pc will shut down.

Sorry to ill inform you, this is the processor i have

Core 2 Quad Q6600 – 2.40 GHz (2×4 MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB) (January 7, 2007)

Lol you have such a beautiful classic quad core processor and you want to get rid of it:(.

OP you need to work on your cooler first.

lol feel free to make me an offer on my beaut ;) j.k

Yeah but if you see where im coming from im no expert and dont want to exert a lot of time onto it and an upgrade would be a nice christmas treat.

Just put the fan on the cooler, seriously its not that hard.

Uses the same mounting as my fenrir. You get the clips that the fan came with and put them through holes on the fan and force the fan against the cooler.

Oh wait, its in the manual. Read it :)

another question is my PSU sufficiant ? if i was to upgrade to i5 etc?

Is that Cooler master Hyper TX3 cooler?

If so you need to attach 90/92mm fan onto it and not the 120mm fan. They should come with mounting clips/pins etc by which you can attach it to the heatsink. Didn't you get any fan with the heatsink?

I did indeed, and the mounting clips for it, but folowed the instructions and there was no physical way of getting it to stay, the clips were wrong for the CPU cooler.

I recently installed thermalright IFX-14 heatsink in my pc and it came with mounting clips. I found setting them on the heatsink tricky while reading manual and trying to understand the orientation of the clips by which I would attach the fans in my first go and I did manage to install 2 fans securely. It may be that you have misread the instructions or that you are finding the orientation of the clips confusing.

Edit: Lol and btw it seems you have Gigabyte mobo and not MSI :D

hi there, just saw this thread via your for sale thread, hopefully these pictures will help you with how to install the clips and get your fan fitted onto the cooler :)

thats very kind, but i have now decided to sell my parts, and my pc is all dismantled hehe.

But thanks would have probably helped at the time when i was there puzzled!
