Sould I replace this iCute PSU?

I am not quite sure how many iCute PSU's you have owned, however I am sure something like Corsair/Seasonic/OCZ is going to be something more superior and reliable. iCute PSU's may do the job, but it depends how you are using the PC, how often, and what components you are using.

I personally wouldn't use one in my rig, that's for sure. - To upgrade, he doesn't need to spend £150, something like this would do the job fine:

It would sure clear my mind knowing that my PC is going to be safe, efficient, quality and reliable.

Also the first result in Google called the PSU a "Ticking Time Bomb", that makes me want to clear well away from them, from my opinion, they seem to be okay for low powered systems.

+1 for the OCZ.

Ok so even though the iCute may be fine to use I have doutbs about it now and if I return it I wont lose out on any money anyway.

I was looking at getting this:

It's only £30 more, what do you think?

Definitely take it back. Thats a good choice of power supply but remove the link, you can't post competitor links :)

Don't link to other competitors, but yes, that is fine.
Just saying but last I ordered from that site the packaging was terrible and the item I ordered was damaged due to lack of protection...

Ive had this computer a while now and was planning to upgrade around january, I assume that corsair 850w would power most setups but how about 2 Gtx 480s or 580s?

Which really isnt that true, I repair about 3-4 desktops a day, power supply failure is pretty uncommon, usually when they fail its from a build up of dust and they overheat and when they do fail it will very rarely take out another components. In my experience I have only ever had this happen once and this was with a well known brand.

Why do you say this PSU is cheap? It is £100, I wouldnt call that cheap, I would call the PSU I use in my server cheap, cost me £15 and it has allowed me to overclock from 2.5ghz to 4.25ghz and this runs 24/7.

How is telling us you run a server overclocked using a £15 PSU going to convince us you know what you're talking about??

I can play the "I work with computers all day and see a million PSU" game too.

And I'll tell you this. People with good spec machines, buy well known brands, because:

1: The rail margins
2: Reliability
3: Warranty

I think you'll be okay with the 850watt. I think you're talking about 600 for 580's SLI'd. I remember the number because my PC has a 600watt PSU :p So I'm a no go!

I'd prefer if someone could back up my comment though before you commit. as I cant remember the source of the information

Back when I first started upgrading pc I got this iCute case with built-in iCute 300W PSU. This seemed to powered my Athlon 800Mhz 256Mb Geforce 2 MX setup fine. But for some reason my 2.5" USB external HDD would fail to work, I tried different enclosure, different USB cables...etc nothing worked. In the end, swapped the PSU out and the problem dissapeared. How rubbish does a PSU need to be to not power an USB HDD properly!? I've steered well clear of iCute ever since.

To OP I think if you're only ever going to run 2 cards in SLI/crossfire I think the HX750 should be enough, but if you just like a bit of headroom the HX850 can't go wrong and should last you a very long time.

And why do you say that?

Just because YOU have not heard of this brand?

iCute is actually part of a bigger brand who also own Lian Li, they produce power supplies for big companies like asus, seasonic and were one of the first companies to introduce modular psus, they were the first to patent it and actually took most other companys to court because of it.

Whaaaaaaat?, everything you just said there couldn't be more incorrect.

a big brand psu will be efficient at giving power to your other components.

i have found in the past with inferior psu's they can damage your components slowly

790i ultra
2X GTX280
E8500
4Gb RAM
1 harddrive
2 diskdrives
Very power efficient CPU (although two cores are too few for games nowadays) but Nvidia's hot chipset and those graphics card rise gaming power draw to near 450w

For that price this is better:

No China capacitors in it:
http://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/xfx-pro-series-650w-power-supply-review/4/

something like Corsair/Seasonic/OCZ is going to be something more superior and reliable.
I wouldn't exactly call random capacitor OCZs as good.
They are better than China bombs but "cheap enough" random capacitors make longer (than couple years) term reliability major unknown.

Another cheap capacitor brand.
(some first BeQuiets even used uber crap Fuhjyyus)
