Behind you... Naked!
Dawn Of War - SoulStorm, crashes like a bugger with errors in running out of RAM.

Sometimes I get a warning about it with a ping when the window opens up in the background, and I can save & quit, but sometimes it dies when I finish the level... Fairly random.

I first saw this on my new gaming laptop and for a while, I thought it was the laptop.

Now, the steam folder, I have simply copied over rom my desktop PC, and so, I also thought that there could be an issue there too, maybe teh files got corrupted somehow.

Unfortunately, for the last 3 weeks I have been back in hospital, and the Wifi is rubbish, so simply re-downloading the game on steam in a non option.

Now, I am out and so, I played on my desktop and that does the same thing.

Ok, so a fresh install of the steam files in order, so I do that, but it still crashes.

Ok then, the original non steam game on the DVD... Digs out and chucks that on, and what happens? - the same bloody thing.

I have also tried a few different driver versions, and on a few different PCs with a few different cards. The nVidia ones fail, the ATI ones dont.

I am at a loss.

What could it possibly be?

Laptop = 870M - Fail
Desktop = 670GT, 470, 470SLI , 9800GT - all fail

Laptop = ATI6750 - seems ok
Desktop = 7770 - Again seems ok.

HELP?

Yeah, if I remember right it's bound to 2GB of RAM (32bit exe). If you go over it, you get the "No memory" errors and a CTD which sucked. There was a patch to modify the .exe to use up to 4GB I believe, but I'm not sure of the implications of doing this with a Steam game as mine were originally non-Steam. Alternatively you could try lowering graphical settings to reduce the RAM usage (such as texture size / quality) and see if that helps.

Hmm.. I am aware ( partially ) that the game is limited to 2GB in itself, however is this ONLY apparent under nVidia?

I am running the game now, on my old Laptop and its peachy, plus, to be honest, I have been wanting a reason to go back to ATI on my Desktop PC or some time ( purely because I am an ATI lover over nVidia - een though 99.9% of my cards have been nVidia ).

Also, admittedly... I have recently bought a new screen for my Desktop and my new laptop is capable of 1920x1280 or whatever it is, so oth of those have been upped in teh not too distant pasr, so yeah... Its possible I recon.

Now, in saying that, I have tried lowering the REZ on the Laptop already, and it does say the lower rez, but its clearly not actually changed it - Just made the texts more fuzzy.

I will have another play and let you know however.

Thanks.
