Hello.

What are your views on these? If they are good ile buy one up to £120. Preferably £100. The company ile buy them from over a interest free credit which I used for my xbox and have now paid it all off :)

The 5.1 speaker setup all come with DVD players which I do not need. They are 300W for £100 with sub. Maybe its worth it and just not use the DVD player?

Some sound bars come with built in subs I see. Are these just as good as the external ones?

1. Philips HTL2150 60W Soundbar with Subwoofer.
2. LG 2430A 160W Soundbar with Built-In Subwoofer & Bluetooth.

Thanks

Needs to be argos dude.

Well I was going to do £50 this month and £50 next. Got a big trip at the end of this month.

Ive seen the LG one on youtube with the external sub. Sounds good though. Can I buy the sub at a later date and add it in?

I do actually have a sub from a 2.1 setup but I doubt I can connect this up as its logitech? :/

They're all just small speakers in a narrow tube. Those particular ones are stereo speakers in a narrow tube. They'll sound like an improvement over the average thin panel TV speakers.

As audio gear goes, £100 is right down there at the bottom end of what it's possible to pay for something better than TV speakers. It isn't the last word in sound quality. It's just ...okay

Trade descriptions should also shoot the manufacturers for describing a midrange speaker in a small box as a sub. At best it would be described as a bass speaker. Even so, it's better than none.

It makes me very sad to think that this is peoples perception of quality AV audio. If this were game console graphics, it with be like offering a budget PS3 with the blocky graphics from a PS1. You'd be up in arms. But because TV speakers got so naff thanks to thinner and thinner screens then this audio tat actually sells.

The real crime is that an entry-level surround kit such as a Yamaha YHT-199 is immeasurably better in every way including sound quality, input flexibility, future-proofing, volume and clarity. It's more money. But sometimes the cheaper solution is actually the poorest value, not the best. Yamaha YHT-199 - £199

Sorry to come across as Grammar Nazi, but it's I'll, and not Ile

Argos sell mainly crap or it's very overpriced usually compared to other online retailers.

Yamaha make the best soundbars on the planet but their sub £500 models are mediocre but still better than the competition in that price range.

I have a £150 yamaha soundbar and I think it's great for what it is a cheap soundbar. You can also buy any subwoofer to add onto it should you feel the need for extra bass, I don't it has enough for my needs.

If your determined to buy from argos just buy anything they will most likely all be on the same level anyway at that price range.

Have a look around on the argos site and see what you can find for <£200 worth getting :D

Argos for now but give it a few months ile sell the thing and upgrade knowing me lol

EDIT: Please take a look. Ile go up to £200

Some people don't have the space or want wires everywhere which is what you get with a surround setup.

Just like when some people just want something to eat as they are hungry you send them to a sandwich shop not a Michelin star restaurant.

Soundbars have their place.

Both out of stock and cannot be delivered :( Grr. Might get a 60W one or something and add my sub? :/ Would it be worth getting the LG one with built in subs and add my own sub as its 100W + or not?

True, but neither have been specifically ruled out in what I've read from SkidMarkKing. What he said was he didn't want a surround system with a build in DVD/Blu-ray player.... and so a Yamaha 199 fits the bill perfectly exactly because it doesn't have a built-in DVD/Blu-ray player.

Just like when some people just want something to eat as they are hungry you send them to a sandwich shop not a Michelin star restaurant.
So many ordinary folk mistakenly believe that an all-in-one kit is the pinnacle of the surround sound audio equipment tree. They live in ignorance about anything better. So your little analogy about sandwich shops would be like living in a world where you only know about McDonalds.

One doesn't need to go OTT to a Michelin restaurant for something better. The little Deli round the corner will do quite nicely. Raising ones sights just a little is often enough to substantially improve the culinary experience. Wouldn't you rather live in a world where you understood the choices and made your own decision based on good information rather than Hobson's Choice.

Soundbars have their place.
They do, but they aren't the last word.... especially at £100. If someone takes the time to make an enquiry then it's only reasonable to furnish them with some good information. That includes broadening their horizons.

Why don't you save the cash you would have been paying Argos wait a couple of months and you'll have enough cash to buy something decent from a different retailer?

A soundbar is not something anyone needs so desperately that they have to buy it on credit while overpaying for underspec kit.
