When I google it, the first result says it is an OEM card and you need custom drivers, but I can't vouch for the website "Philscomputerlab".

A quick reddit scoop also revealed this website:

Again though, I can't vouch for anything there.

I had one with this chip that was called X-Fi XtremeGamer. You can Google that and get the last Creative drivers.

Back in the day I also ran 3rd party drivers as the official ones weren’t good? I don’t recall. Maybe here?

Is it PCI or PCI-E? They also come half and full height. Sometimes the connections internally are for front panel audio, not usually power.

Does it show in device manager?

I use studio monitors connected straight to my onboard audio lol. The only potential issues you can encounter with onboard audio is ground loop/interference noise (entirely setup dependant) and I guess lower output voltage than the standard 2vrms.

Who in this day even uses the on-board soundcard on a motherboard?
i do, i have a 2.0 studio speakers. and most good monitors dont have sound built in

I disable mine and just let DP deliver the sound via the GPU?
what is the DP delivering sound to? because the monitor you have in the sig(LG Ultra Gear 32GN600-B 165Hz 1440P) doesn't have sound built in

What would be the advantage
Of using displayport for sound compared to
Onboard audio?
Most monitors have either no speakers
Or pretty poor speakers
I guess I could use display port then plug my speakers
Into the monitor 3.5 jack
But does a gpu process sound better than onboard sound chip
Is probably what I am asking

Should say got a top end motherboard
And the sound part of it should be pretty good
Which is probably why I never tried this

The important part is the DAC, the monitor one is probably inferior to the onboard, wouldn't hurt to try it and see if you can hear a difference.

Motherboard apparently is SABRE9018Q2C integrated DAC amplifier
No idea about dacs to be honest
But its a premium motherboard so would expect that
to be decent
No idea about monitor dac
Just tried audio through monitor
But speakers are so much quieter it's hard to compare
Guess I will have to fumble around trying to find the 3.5 jack
They never seem to put them in easy to reach places

Now this has got me wondering
The monitor can do dp alt through usb c
Can that be used for a usb dac?
Got a rog clavis somewhere
Must admit all this isn't stuff I am that familiar with

Seems like an ESS DAC so the board's audio is probably better than the monitor's.

So display port to monitor
Decent sound quality terrible volume level even at 100%

Display port to monitor and speakers plugged into monitor
Slightly better sound quality volume level is lot better
Though even at 100% not close to unbearably loud

Speakers plugged directly to motherboard 3.5 jack
Much better sound massive volume level jump
100% would be unbearable
And probably have my other half coming through to pc room
Wondering what the #### was happening

So in my case anyway the onboard sound wins by a mile
It's so good that can hear instruments that I couldn't
With the other 2 methods
Would a sound card etc be better?
In my case I think my onboard is at a point
Where I wouldn't be able to tell the difference
Though am not an audiophile

Tested with November rain
As its got vocals, orchestra instruments, electric guitar solo etc
Plus I happen to like guns and roses lol

Hopefully some of that's useful to the op
