Sound Blaster G6 and latency issue

I have had what I can only describe as a weird issue for a while now and I’ve found what is causing it finally.

I have had a Sound blasterX G6 for about 2 years now and realised this is what is causing my pain.

I have always been a Battlefield/Apex fps type of game player; I’ve never been the best but I do reasonably well. I noticed a while back I was suddenly finding online fps games more difficult than previous years and my kills per game and general ability to get through a fight increasingly difficult.

Me reaching my mid 40s I presumed my reaction were getting worse as I age and this was the cause of it all but, I knew something felt off like I was a step behind what I was seeing on the screen to where players actually were.

It felt like lag but the pings and my pc were more than capable for the games I was playing. This year I’ve replaced my PSU as it was getting old and when I did this my G6 died around the same time and was thrown in the bin.

I still had my Sennheiser GSX1000 on the shelf so I plugged it in while I ordered another sound device. Suddenly the guns in games felt like I was firing bullets and not rubber versions of them and enemies started falling more often than they had in a while. Never thought too much of it until my new G6 arrived.

I installed the G6 and all seemed ok for a day or so and then suddenly I was getting killed everywhere again and guns that were fine a few days before were back to feeling meh again.

So it clicked, I uninstalled the G6 and I’m currently using the GSX1000 again and my gaming ability is back to more what I was used to before I bought my G6 again.

So a long story short for what ever reason the G6 and creative software cause me some kind of delay while I’m gaming which I found hard to diagnose as in latencymon it didn’t seem to show up and I’ve not found many reports of this issue, I did find one thread about it on the G6 but not many others.

I can reproduce this on 2 different G6`s (friend has one still – he replaced his now) and wondering if anyone else has this issue without realizing.

So, I’m now unsure what to buy sound card/device wise for my AKG 712 pro`s the GSX1000 is good in some ways but sounds very `tin` like to me and lacks punch and quality to me. The positional sound is ok but that’s about it, plus whenever I shut my pc down with this connected it gives off a loud noise to the speakers as if a static issue or something.

Long post hope it helps someone, hope everyone is keeping well and thanks for getting this far down the post lol.

PS. I have latest version of firmware and software.
Also i tried the G6 in both usb 3 and 2 ports and direct to back of motherboard and usb hub.

I have a G6, but I don't play a lot of FPS games sadly, do you know if there's anything else to look for? Tbh this time around after a recent reinstall I decided not to install the software.

I tried the G6 with the software uninstalled but it still had the same outcome, but it wasnt a clean windows install after uninstalling the G6, so could have been traces of the software there i guess.

I dont have any other way to determine what was happening other than trying a different sound device and seeing how it goes.
I found it a very odd situation but ive been a couple of weeks without the G6 and im doing more than double my usual damage in games now.

Ive since ordered a dac and amp -

Jds Atom Headphone amp
Topping D30 Dac

Hoping for some quality sound for my edifiers 1600Ts and my AKG 712 Pros

I Game and watch live streams etc, be a while before one piece gets here but i can wait.

Using the GSX1000 until they arrive which is good for positional but for me seems to lack for music etc.

My SMSL SP200 and Topping D50s just arrived today. Currently using my AKG K712 Pros, makes an incredible difference vs the Soundblaster AE-5 (at least to me).
