Hello all,
I have been scouting around your forums about my problem, and its given me the feeling Creative know jack...

I have a SB z, works a treat. Since getting the card, I find I come home from work or I'm just surfing and will find my rads start, the room getting warmer and the PC won't sleep. Looking in task manager SB services and control panel are using combined 35% CPU time. Randomly, no game audio, no windows audio, no nothing. An idle card.

Ive emailed creative with reply... Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Creative.

We don't see any issues with the Sound Card taking a lot of CPU performance. This is the reason why the system requirements is a bit high.

If you still require assistance, please reply to this email and include any previous correspondence to ensure a quick response.

Regards,

Can someone tell me if this is the case, and how a dedicated SC can need any more than 0.5% or that Creative are wrong, so I can take it and shove it.

Again the PC won't sleep if the CPU isn't idle ish, I come home to a water system with flu, and I can imagine an electric bill increase. I could just reboot every time it happens but shouldn't need to...

Thanks all,
Tom

Sounds like a driver problem to me, a major memory leak most likely.
I just took a look at the CPU and memory usage of my Xonar STX control panel and on standby it uses 0% CPU and 4.1MB and while active and playing music with the frequency response graphics dancing it goes up to 1% CPU and 5MB memory usage.
Using Windows 8.1 here.

A sc really shouldnt use much to any cpu power or ram. My XtremeMusic was using around 1% CPU and 6MB of memory whilst active.

Your card is hardware based, his is software.

Is it the Windows Driver Foundation (WUDFHost.exe) using the high CPU% when you have music playing?

Hello all,

Yep, another format (like formatting my C:\) always since getting the card. Its too random to be well point a finger at able.

No only the Sound Blaster Service, I don't know if this overheads WUDF?

Wish I had stayed with Asus now, good cards. Just like a moth i liked the red with Creative. Support seems to be a joke, Is mine software like you say Cookeh? In witch case I've made at it to the support team ha.

Again its only when nothing is happening. No SPDIF input (that i thought first set it off) no windows audio and no music. I doubt its the card, and seems its a one off issue.

Windows 8.1 (for amd betas), latest drivers (from still slow server) etc etc.

*** sorry didn't read through my reply, and its late...

When it happens again I will try a post a pic with all services, but what I have seen is only sound blaster service and control panel using my time, windows audio service etc using as normal. 0%.

Creative support have been known for cutting corners or asking your nan for advice. They said this was normal!?!? I know it isn't!

You've got some kind of conflict somewhere as I'm getting 0%-1% cpu as I type this and I've got the SB pro studio panel open and Winamp playing. Using Win7 *64 (Ultimate) and SBz (retail).

Yeah, I think its a conflict too. I don't think its hardware, disabled on-board and all AMD ones on my GPU.
