Sound Card Advice over AC97

I have a logitech 5.1 z54 something system. Would it be wise to get a xifi soundcard? Would I hear a huge difference?

Ill need one with a Digital optical out input. Which is the better card?

The Fatal1ty version has 62MB of extra memory. Decide whether that is worth the premium (I don't think so).
Sound quality wise, the Xtreme Music, Platinum and Fatal1ty are all the same.

Yes, the difference should be very noticeable. AC97 is garbage to be quite frank. I went from AC97 to SB Live then to X-Fi - I really noticed the improvement, although I do pretty much only use headphones so it's easier to hear the nuances of each card

I was asking the same question some months ago. I bought a Audigy 2 and the sound differance in games was remarkable for the price. Deep bass and directional sound was excellent. As i just use a Medusa headset I did not feel the need to get the "latest" sound card and I have no regrets.
