I currently have an aging Creative Sound Blaster Audigy card which is better than the onboard Realtek but will I have any issues with it in Vista x64? If it will cause problems does anyone have any recommendations for a suitable sound card that will work fine in vista x64 (I have been thinking of upgrading anyway)?

The system it will be running on will be:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (Conroe)
Gigabyte DS3P
4GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM
Vista x64 Business

Thanks for the suggestion, I've heard a lot of people are having problems with Creative X-Fi cards in Vista (especially Vista x64). What sort of problems are they and how likely am I to encounter them (baring in mind I play MP3's and game, not too concerned about recording from inputs).

Thanks

Get the Asus Xonar. A bit more expensive than the Creative solutions but from what i have seen a better sound card than the Creative soundcards and the drivers seem very solid.

The creative cards are very hit and miss with x64, Personally I've had problems, drivers not installing, crackling sounds etc. You're probably better off getting either the Prelude or the Xonar

I have just got rid of an X-Fi ExtremeMusic that will not work in my system (specs in sig) ... this one is a new replacement from Creative for one that caused my rig to fail to POST - I assume that they found it to be faulty but it was fine in my previous DFI Lanparty setup.

The X-Fi shows up as working in all the right places in the Vista 64 control panel & device manager etc with no apparent issues but just refuses to play any sound  Others are having no issues so YMMV!

I will now look to get a non creative card for the first time since I paid £240 for a CD-ROM & SoundBlaster to go with my shiny new 468 a few years back :D

^ I bought the very first Sound Blaster, the 8 bit ISA. :-) I think Wing Commander was the big release at the time (speech pack)
