Thinking of buying an "overclocked bundle" with Intel i3 and Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard. However my current audio card Creative X-Fi Extreme plugs into a PCI_E1 which the Gig Mobo doesn`t appear to have. I don`t suppose it will work in a PCI-E16 - so is there any alternative. Perhaps OC can suggest an alternative Mobo for this bundle

You can safely plug PCI-E cards into PCI-E slots of same or greater bandwidth. For example, PCI_Ex1 goes and works nicely in any PCI_E slots. PCI_Ex8 could be plugged into x8 and x16, etc.
My Creative X-Fi is plugged into x16 slot and works perfectly.
