Sound card problem

Hi,
OK here's the problem:

For some odd reason my computer will only play system sounds, such as when windows loads up for example, but will not play sound from music or video files.

I have reinstalled the drivers multiple times but to no use.

Anyone think of a work around?

What is showing in device manager under sound video and game controllers.
Best bet, is completely uninstall all creative software for the sound card. Then run Drivercleaner in safe mode, to remove everything related to Creative Soundblaster. Then clean reinstall the drivers in normal mode.

Also check the settings in Control Panel::Sounds And Audio Devices

cheers for the advice folks, will run drivercleaner when i get the chance
