sound card with budget speakers?

if i bought an asus xonar dx would i notice the sound difference from onboard with a £30 set of speakers and £20 headphones or would i need to buy more expensive equipment?

i have xonar d2 and i can tell the difference between that and my old sound card which was a creative audigy 2 zs which was an improvement over the onboard. in general the bass is a lot tighter and the sound quality is so much clearer you dont get any distortion. but i am using sennheiser headphones and logitech z4 speakers but i guess if you wanted an improvement over pnbpard get a creative for around 30£ like this one
