Hey peeps, I always used to buy soundblaster cards, then when nvidia released the nforce boards the on-board sound seemed very good and i have not bothered since.

I am currently spec'in up a new system using the EVGA 680i mobo, is it really worth getting an add in sound card? what benefits do you get? or is the on-board ok.

Thanks a lot,

James.

x-fi would be good for games, plus onboard sound is really pants, will even be able to hear that through pc speakers which are quite frankly rubbish.

Get the x-fi gamer, should be a good card.

there isnt much noticable difference between decent onboard and sounblasters tbh, but not tried an xfi so wouldnt know bout that.

I recently made the jump from onboard to an X-fi gamer. The difference when gaming and listening to music is incredible. Haven't tried it in movies yet but apparently its just as good.

it depends what you're using it for - if you're going to be using your computer to play a lot of music then go for an EMU 0404 soundcard - will sound a lot better than an x-fi - let alone onboard sound.

Wow thanks a lot for the replys guys, I think i am gonna go for the xi-fi gamer and see how it is :D

Thanks!!!

James.
